Ultra’s airborne Tactical Data Link System experience commenced with the design of a Link-11 Data Link Processor. The success of this system led to the development of a High Integrity Data Link (HIDL) for Command and Control (C2) of UAVs, currently the basis for a new NATO STANAG and selected for the UK’s WATCHKEEPER Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (TUAV) programme.

STANAG provides:

·

a Command and Control (C2) uplink and telemetry downlink for multiple UAVs

·

a narrow band downlink for sensors such as electro optic or infra red cameras (e.g. still images from these sensors)

·

a network enabled capability to support communication with multiple nodes.

The HIDL system also provides:

·

Low Probability of Intercept (LPI)

·

Low Probability of Detection (LPD)

·

jam resistance

·

multipath immunity

to ensure the C2 functionality is not compromised during operation in hostile
environments. These are achieved through the use of advanced signal processing techniques.

Originally developed for UAV systems, HIDL can be used to connect and maintain any system of multiple nodes, be they ground, air
